  7. information that you may find useful for installing and using
  8. Sygate Personal Firewall. For additional instructions on

  10. please see the Sygate Personal Firewall 2.1 User's
  11. Guide. You can quickly get to the User Guide from the help
  12. menu within the Sygate Personal Firewall application.

  47. It is recommended that you close any other services or applications
  48. that may be using your network or modem drivers prior to installing
  49. Sygate Personal Firewall.

  51. For Windows 95 Users:

  53. It is recommended that you have Microsoft DUN (Dial Up Networking) 
  54. 1.2 (or later) and Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 (or later).
  55. You should download Windows 95 Service Pack 1 and Winsock 2.0,
  56. which can be found at: http://www.microsoft.com/windows95.

  58. IMPORTANT: DO NOT INSTALL SYGATE PERSONAL FIREWALL ON A PDC (Primary 
  59. Domain Controller) OR BDC (Backup Domain Controller).

  65. * To verify that your computer is protected by Sygate Personal
  66.   Firewall, click the Test button to do a sample port scan (you 
  67.   must be connected directly to the Internet before you do this, 
  68.   otherwise, you may scan your Gateway).

  70. * ICS cannot be used in conjunction with Sygate Personal Firewall.
  71.   Make sure that ICS is not being used.

  106. * If you are running an older version of Sygate Personal Firewall, 
  107.   you must completely uninstall the old version from the Start Menu
  108.   before installing Sygate Personal Firewall 2.1.

  110. * Sygate Personal Firewall does not support IP Forwarding or RRAS
  111.   on an NT/2000 computer.
  112.  
  113. * Sygate Personal Firewall does not block BootP for DHCP even if
  114.   you have DHCP disabled even though you have not checked the "Allow
  115.   DHCP" check box, you can still obtain your IP Address; but you might
  116.   see several error messages.  If you do not want to see any error
  117.   messages, but use a DHCP server, click the "Allow DHCP" box under
  118.   Advanced Port Settings.

  120. * If you upgrade to AOL 6.0 from AOL 4.0 or AOL 5.0, you must reinstall
  121.   Sygate Personal Firewall.
  122.  
  123. * This build of Sygate Personal Firewall is not compatible with ICS.
  124.   In order to use Sygate Personal Firewall, you must disable ICS
  125.   (ICS is usually disabled by default).
  126.  
  127. * ATM adapters are not supported.
  128.  
  129. * If you installed a service pack to NT 4.0, Sygate Personal
  130.   Firewall may not function properly.  If this occurs, you need to
  131.   reinstall Sygate Personal Firewall.
  132.  
  133. * If you upgrade to Windows 2000, you must reinstall Sygate
  134.   Personal Firewall.
  135.  
  136. * Sygate Personal Firewall 2.1 is not compatible with 
  137.   SyGate for Home Office 3.11 or earlier versions.

  139. * If an application is re-enabled from disallowed application list,
  140.   it needs to be restarted to be fully functional.
  141.  
  142. * If Microsoft PPTP VPN is installed after Sygate Personal
  143.   Firewall installation, you need to uninstall and reinstall Sygate
  144.   Personal Firewall for PPTP to be functional.
  145.  
  146. * Some Screen Savers, such as any Microsoft 3D screen savers, are not 
  147.   compatible with Sygate Personal Firewall ultra-high mode when they
  148.   receive any network message.  If you want to use the ultra-high 
  149.   schedule option, please verify its functionality when selecting a 
  150.   new screen saver under Windows 95.
  151.  
  152. * Sygate Personal Firewall is not compatible with Cybercop and X-Win32.
  153.   These applications will display error messages and fail when executing 
  154.   with Sygate Personal Firewall.
  155.  
  156. * Sygate Personal Firewall does not support connection to Sygate 
  157.   Management Server through PPTP under Windows 95. If you want to use
  158.   PPTP to connect to Sygate Management Server, you need to upgrade 
  159.   your operating system to Windows 98 or later version.
  160.  
  161. * The broadcasting messages for screen saver is not operating properly under
  162.   Windows 2000.  It indicates screen saver is on even when the screen saver
  163.   is disabled.  As a result, Sygate Personal Firewall will switch on ultra
  164.   high mode when screen saver is disabled.  If you do not want ultra high 
  165.   protection with screen saver, you need to turn it off in the Sygate Personal 
  166.   Firewall configuration panel instead of the Windows screen saver panel.

  172. For standalone users, you can register this software online at 
  173. http://www.sygate.com/buy/salespolicy.htm. Upon registering 
  174. this software, our website will automatically generate a serial
  175. number and registration key for your continued usage. After 
  176. receiving this information, you can enter it into the registration
  177. screen (available in the Help menu from the Sygate Personal 
  178. Firewall manager program).

  193. * Sygate Personal Firewall will cause IIS 4.0 to function 
  194.   improperly with port 80 enabled.  Sygate Personal Firewall
  195.   will function properly at all security levels in IIS 5.0. 
  196.  
  197. * In high security mode, Windows 95 will not let you log
  198.   on to a domain.
  199.  
  200. * DNS requests are not logged in Ultra-high mode.
  201.  
  202. * Windows 2000 can not go in to Standby mode with Sygate
  203.   Personal Firewall service running.
  204.  
  205. * Sygate Personal Firewall will cease to function property
  206.   once you upgrade to Windows 2000 from Windows 95, 98 or 
  207.   NT 4.0.  Uninstall and reinstall Sygate Personal Firewall
  208.   to ensure proper functioning.

  210. * No log exists for FTP on medium status. 
  211.  
  212. * Sygate Personal Firewall does not report second 
  213.   nmap scanning within 20 seconds of the first scanning.

  215. * Sygate Personal Firewall does not block AOL instant 
  216.   messages using Ultra High Security. 
  217.  
  218. * Sygate Personal Firewall may not support a proxy client 
  219.   because it might not have a default gateway. 
  220.  
  221. * Sygate Personal Firewall is unable to generate a log for
  222.   a blocked VPN in medium security.
  223.  
  224. * Disabling network driver under Windows 95 will cause to system
  225.   to hang. Please check your system for disabled network driver 
  226.   before installing Sygate Personal Firewall.
